Jerry McLaughlin and Rebecca Crowell are proud to offer their comprehensive workshops in abstract painting with cold wax. Based on the philosophy of their groundbreaking book, Cold Wax Medium: Techniques, Concepts & Conversations, each of these workshops focuses on progressive skills and artistic expression using cold wax and oils as a medium. Abstract Landscape Oil Painting Using Cold Wax and Other Mediums. This unique course gives artists a new way to work. Each day of the workshop includes: Work with Cold Wax Medium, Galkyd, Galkyd Gel and Neo Megilp. Learn how to incorporate this and other painting mediums into your oil painting practice. Workshop Calendar Moving Paint: Expanding Your Vision with Oil and Cold wax is focused on approaching painting and the creative process using R&F pigments sticks, drawing supplies, oil, cold wax, pan pastels and more. I cover materials, supports, opacity and transparency of paint, layering, texture, composition and finishing a painting. Pam's oil & wax workshop was transforming in so many ways! Her class is a perfect mix of demonstrations, hands-on painting and constructive, valuable critique. She is clear and straight forward (and fun!) in her teachings about design, color and techniques. Cold wax (a mix of beeswax and natural solvents) is applied at room temperature and combined with oil paint to make a sensuous butter-cream texture — fun to work with! Combining this mixture in many layers with marks, collage elements, pigments etc., Lynne teaches workshops in Oregon and Washington as well as her Neskowin Studio. Lynne has taught at Sitka for several years in her preferred medium of Oil & Cold Wax. Her teaching philosophy is to learn by process, to work in a collaborative atmosphere and, above all, to have fun and enjoy the other artists in the workshop.

Landscape oil techniques with Cold Wax medium Introducing a specialized workshop infusing cold wax medium into representational as well as abstracted landscape painting. We’ll explore alternative tools, mark making, dry pigments, colour mixing/ viscosity, direct /indirect painting and more to give voice to your visual vocabulary. With a process based upon layering and colour interactions, we will use cold wax medium, tube oils, pigment sticks, powdered pigments and a variety of implements to create rich textures, resonant color fields and to identify and develop our personal mark making. Using multiple layers of cold wax blended with Gamblin oils and Galkyd give a unique, luminescence and depth to each painting. You’ll learn to rub and scrape to bring forth layers of color from underneath the wax glaze and add texture and form. Note: This workshop needs a minimum of 6 students to run. SPRING Painting Workshops Oil and Cold Wax Medium Exploration Weekend. This two day intensive exploration will delve into the different approaches, tools and techniques of working in oils and cold wax medium.
